iTEP - International Test of English Proficiency

About SLATE

SLATE is the Secondary Level Assessment Test of English. The primary function of SLATE is to assess the English language proficiency of young learners of English as a second
language. SLATE addresses a younger audience than the iTEP, that being primarily high school age, or younger, students who want to study in the United States or in other English speaking high schools and academies. The SLATE exam is based on the same structure as the iTEP Academic and iTEP Business exams. The basic test structure is explained on Test Structure page.

The SLATE exam is available in two versions, SLATE and SLATE-Plus. SLATE is the shorter version that tests three skills (Reading, Listening, and Grammar) and is only 50 minutes in length with immediate result delivery.

SLATE-Plus is the longer version that tests all skills (Reading, Listening, Grammar, Writing, and Speaking) and is only 90 minutes in length with 5-business-day result delivery.

SLATE will determine an overall proficiency level from 0 (Beginner) to 6 (Advanced), as well as individual proficiency levels from 0 to 6 for each of the three skills tested (Reading, Listening, and Grammar.) The SLATE-Plus will determine an overall proficiency level using the same scale and standards, but covering the additional two skills of Writing and Speaking.
