Boston Educational Services
Established in 2002, Boston Educational Services (BES) is an educational services company specializing in online English language proficiency assessment. In developing the International Test of English Proficiency (iTEP), BES' goal was to create an innovative assessment tool which provides its users with unmatched efficiency, convenience, comprehensiveness, and affordability.
BES Founders
Perry S. Akins, Chairman: Perry served as president of ELS Language Centers, the largest proprietary intensive English language program in the U.S., for some 30 years. Under Perry’s leadership, ELS grew to over 30 U.S. and 20 international locations. In 1997 Perry oversaw the highly successful sale of ELS to Berlitz. He retired from ELS in 1998, but remained as a consultant to ELS until 2009. Perry is a long-time and active member of Rotary International.
Sharif T. Ossayran, President: Sharif has lived the international education experience, having come to the U.S. from Iraq after high school and graduating from the University of Southern California. Thereafter he founded a company that specialized in providing health insurance to international students at U.S. colleges and universities. After 25 years, he sold that company, and continues to work with the new ownership. Sharif has been an active member of NAFSA: Association of International Educators since his student days, having held both regional and national leadership positions in the organization.
