About SLATE
SLATE is the Secondary Level Assessment Test of English. The primary function of SLATE is to assess the English language proficiency of young learners of English as a second language. SLATE addresses a younger audience than the iTEP exams – primarily high school age students, or younger – who want to study in English speaking high schools and academies. The SLATE exam is based on the same structure as the iTEP Academic and iTEP Business exams.
SLATE is available in two formats:
- SLATE – assesses Reading, Listening, and Grammar and is 50 minutes in length, with an additional 10 minutes for pre-test preparation.
- SLATE-Plus – assesses Reading, Listening, Grammar, Writing, and Speaking and is 80 minutes in length, with an additional 10 minutes for pre-test preparation.
These two different versions – SLATE and SLATE-Plus – provide high schools, boarding schools, and academies around the world the exams they need for evaluating English language proficiency.
